6月15日18:00，图书馆一楼大厅再次迎来了每周三的英语畅谈时光。今晚参加英语角的外教有Dr. Troy Maurice Smith, Ms. Bronagh Mary Monney, Mr. Robert K Mateja, Mr. Byron Sherman和David Michael Herreill。

与往常不同，今晚的英语角以采访的形式展开。据三位采访者说，她们的本次期末考核与采访外教有关，因此借助这次英语角的机会进行采访。采访的内容涉及外教来中国教书的原因、中西方学生及老师的差异以及外教对中国高考的看法等方面。Troy说道，在美国作弊的后果很严重，学生作弊会被直接取消在校资格，然而很多中国学生并没有把作弊看成一件严肃的事情。另外，中国学生很注重答案的记忆与背诵，而西方老师更看重的是学生的批判性思维以及思考过程。

在Bronagh看来，中国过于看重高考，这种一考定终身的考试制度给学生带来巨大压力。当学生表明每次与外教交流都很紧张时，Bronagh和Troy一致认为要多尝试，因为每交流一次都会让自己变的更好。

英语角在一片欢声笑语中结束，每一次交流之后，大家都会变的更好。

English Corner: An Interview With Foreign Teachers

On the evening of June 15, Dr. Troy Maurice Smith, Ms. Bronagh Mary Monney, Mr. Robert K Mateja, Mr. Byron Sherman and David Michael Herreill attended the English corner today.

Unusually, today’s English corner started from an interview with the foreign teachers. Three students conducted the interview in order to finish their final exam. And the interview included the reasons why the foreign teachers came to China and the differences of students and teachers between eastern and western countries, as well as their perception of China’s college entrance examination. According to Troy, cheating in the USA would result in serious consequences while most Chinese students were not serious about cheating. Besides, most Chinese students usually spent lots of time in reciting. However, it was really not what the Western teachers wanted. On the contrary, what they wanted was student’s critical thinking and their process of thinking.

In Bronagh’s opinion, Chinese thought too highly about the college entrance exam, which gave students too much pressure. When asked for advice on how to overcome nervousness caused by the communication with foreigners, Bronagh and Troy agreed that students should try more and make progress every time.

The English corner ended in laughter.
