3月24日星期四，来自加拿大的外教Ms. Joleen Peternel在丽泽楼D106为我们介绍了自己的潜水经历。在讲座中，我们了解到这位老师在亚洲已经生活了7年之久，并且她本人十分享受在韩国的潜水生活。她曾经参加过韩国的潜水测试。令人惊讶的是，整个团队只有她一个女生。在第一天，他们需要参加一个关于规则和基础知识的笔试，而第二天第三天，则是在水下进行考试，测验自身潜水和救助他人的能力。

在她看来，韩国和中国的水域污染比较严重。她分享了自己在新加坡和泰国的海洋里拍摄的照片，在座的同学们都感受到了大海的魅力。此外，她介绍了海底许多看似美丽，却十分危险的生物。这些生物有着艳丽的色彩，但却有着隔着潜水服也能把人蛰伤的能力。

开心的是，Ms. Joleen Peternel带来了她的潜水装备。她告诉大家，面镜和蛙鞋是非常重要的，它们是最基础的潜水设备。同时，防寒衣、呼吸管、力调节背心、潜水仪表和计算机表等装备也是必须的。

Ms. Joleen Peternel生动地向我们展示了潜水的使用。通过这次的讲座，同学们对潜水这一运动有了更加深入的了解。

A Lecture: The Joy of Scuba Diving

On March 24th , Ms. Joleen Peternel, a foreign teacher from Canada, shared her scuba diving experiences with us. She told us that she had been living in Asia for 7 years. In Korea, she took part in the scuba diving test, and there was only one girl in the team. For the first day, a written test about regulations and basics was held; for the second and third days, underwater tests were conducted in order to evaluate one’s diving ability as well as the ability to help others..

In her opinion, both the oceans in China and Korea were dirty and badly polluted. She showed us some pictures of oceans taken in Singapore and Thailand. The ocean was blue; the water and the sky merged in one color. All of the students felt the charm of the ocean.What’s more, she introduced some marine wildlife underwater. They were beautiful, but dangerous. They could sting you even though you wore a diving suit.

Surprisingly, Ms. Joleen Peternel brought her diving equipments, and showed us how to use them. Among those equipments, masks and flippers were the basic and the most important ones. In the meantime, devices such as wetsuits, air tubes, strength-regulating vests, diving meters and calculating watches were also essential.

This lecture gave us insight into scuba diving. Students were more interested in this amazing sport.
