Luhuitou Park
Luhuitou Park is located three kilometers away from the northern downtown Sanya. As for this park, there is a touching and impressive love story. It is said that a long time ago, a Li person chased a mountain buck from the Wuzhishan to the South China Sea. Faced with the sea and having no way out, the buck looked back then suddenly turned into a charming maid. Based on the legend,the magnificent sculpture which was build to witness the romantic love. Besides, the park is also the first and the best choice if you want to climb for the bird’s view of panorama of the Sanya city and the Sanya Bay.
1. What problems or difficulties did you run into when translating the Chinese passages into English? How did you tackle them?
At first, I didn't know how to translate the Park’s name. I considered whether I should retain the pronunciation of Chinese name. Therefore, I searched the related information about this park and the photos of the sculpture. I found it was also difficult to make sure how to build up the sentence structure from Chinese to English. Besides, I also searched the proper noun when I was not sure about it, such as the places’ name. I considered for a while when I translated the “成为了爱情的见证” into English. Because, there is a little difference between “成为” and “become”. I thought that the word “become” contained the sense of change. Therefore, I tryed to look up the dictionary and find whether there was any example sentence. Moreover, I also paid more attention to the usage of the article when I translated it.
2. What resources or tools did you use in translating this text?
Before I did the translation, I searched the information of the park on the Internet and found some photos about the sculpture. I also looked up the dictionary to confirm the usage of proper noun. Besides, I also used the website of synonyms to avoid the repetition of the vocabulary.
